Why Your Spelling Doesn't Matter Written by Craig Garber
Do you find it strange that Im a writer and yet occasionally, youll find simple words in my daily e-mail messages, and the spelling of them is completely wrong?
Know why this happens (besides the fact that Im not a big spelling fan?
The answer is simple: First, sometimes misspelling a word every now-and-again makes you look more human, and anything you can do to make yourself more human, also lets your prospects relate better to you.
Second, its actually an involvement devise for many of the people on my list.
(Oops, I meant device -- got cha.)
And as you know, if you want to sell something, getting people involved with you -- on any level -- is always good, right?
I mean, youd be astounded at how many people send us in e-mails pointing out all my spelling errors -- and look, its not like I make hundreds of them or anything like that! People actually seem to feel good they found spelling mistakes made by a copywriter.
The irony of it is just too great for them to ignore.
So bluntly, having some spelling errors in my sales copy, is... for some people on my list, a great way to get them involved with me.
And lastly, the truth is, sometimes I just mess up!
Ive got my hands in more pies than youd ever imagine. Between client work and my own projects, Im involved in no less than 10 things at any one given time.
And that doesnt even begin to include my consulting clients and sales copy reviews.
So dont be surprised if you see a spelling error every now-and-again in my daily e-mails -- given the volume of work I have on my plate, its just bound to happen.
Plus, remember -- Im the King Of Copy, not the Sultan Of Spelling, right?
And like Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry, A mans got to know his limitations.
Now go sell something,
